One of the reasons why I love going to weekend markets is the endless possibilities of discovering great food finds. In the past years that I have been going to Mercato Centrale, one of the food finds that really love and patronize up to this day is Mochiko. Despite being introduced to different Mochi stores sprouting all over Manila, truth be told, I still keep coming back to the tried and tested Mochiko.
There are a lot of things about Mochiko to be loved, but one that illuminate is their creativity in coming up with different flavors. I've been crazy with their azuki, caramel, and black sesame variants and I was floored when they released their chocnut and cookie dough flavors. And during the holiday season, I was introduced to their new flavor, Potato Chip Chocolate Mochi.
Who would have thought, right? Sheer genius.
This new flavor by Mochiko is a beautiful collaboration with Risa Chocolate which is also known in every food fairs and weekend markets in Manila. Risa Chocolate provides the chocolate covered potato chips while FIC Ice cream provides the delectable ice cream.
One may be hesitant about the potato chips surrounded by ice cream inside a mochi ball for the fear that it might get soggy. Yet, since each chips was covered by chocolate, it definitely retained its crispiness. Sink your teeth into the soft mochi and you will be greeted by the chocolatey creaminess of the ice cream. Its soft and creamy texture will caress your palate and further chew will open your palate into the crunch brought about by the crispiness of the potato chips. While there's a play in texture, the flavor will never go unnoticed as the Risa Chocolate covering the chips enhance the innate chocolate flavor of the ice cream further.
Mochiko for me has always been an indulging treat. One or two mochi balls used to be satisfying enough for me but with Potato Chip Chocolate Flavor, it's a different story. I could eat six mochi balls in one go much like eating stacks of chocolate covered potato chips, I just can't stop!
I have to warn you that this Mochiko variant is extremely addicting so instead of buying per piece, you can also grab a box or two. Note how cute the mochi balls eating instruction printed on the box. Thankfully we no longer need to take a long drive to Tagaytay City nor hunt the next weekend market just to satisfy our Mochiko cravings since different Mochiko branches are now scattered in Metro Manila.
So if you are craving for something cool, delicious, and unique, I highly recommend Mochiko Mochi. Recvel in the deliciousness of mochi balls and be excited with new exciting and unique flavors they will be dishing out soon.
