Recently I was able to try the new Highlands Gold Corned Beef – an elevated version of the well known Highlands Corned Beef made with Angus Beef. Aptly labeled as the Gold variant, Highlands Gold Corned Beef is a premium corned beef made with choicest cut of Angus beef packed in a can of pure beefy goodness.
I used to think that Highlands Corned Beef in red can couldn’t get any better. I mean, it is one of those canned goods my pantry never runs out of. Its quality can easily rival some of my favorite local brands I’ve long been patronizing. Then they released the Gold label. And yes, it did get better.
I remember mentioning before that corned beef is one of those which I consider my comfort food. A simple sauteed corned beef peppered with onions and garlic on a bed of fluffy rice is something I would be having a hard time saying no to. Paired it with fried egg - whether scrambled or sunny side up, I'll be a really happy camper.
The reason why I love Highlands Gold Corned Beef is that since it is made with Angus beef, it takes my comfort food dining experience to a different level. Angus beef is not easy to come by on a day to day basis especially when budget is a matter of concern. With Highlands Gold, I could rock an Angus feast all day every single day for a price of Php150 a can.
Compared to the red line of Highlands Corned Beef which biggest can size is pegged at 260g, the Gold label comes in hefty 320g can serving. The easy-open-can is a thoughtful addition as it can be carried anywhere without fussing over an absence of a can opener.
Being of premium quality, Highlands Gold Corned Beef do not have an artificial flavoring. The distinct taste of high quality beef is very apparent. The smoky flavor of a real Angus beef steak is noticeably present in every long strand of corned beef this gold label has.
There are number of recipes anyone could come up using Highlands Gold Corned Beef and a good quality beef tasting dish can be expected. But in my case, I treat it just like how I treat a good slab of Angus beef steak, I let it shine on its own because its premium taste carries me through the whole meal, leaving me satisfied.
With that, I have tried several recipes but my favorite remains to be the simplest of all - sauteed corned beef peppered with small chunks of potatoes. I also love pairing it with steamed rice as opposed to garlic rice because the absence of all other nuisances in flavor made the flavor of the Angus beef all the more shines.
Needless to say, when I got some mean hankering for a good Angus beef meal and if obtaining one close in to the impossible, I have Highlands Gold Corned Beef to satisfy me. From time to time I still enjoy Highlands Corned Beef in red can and still ended up with a stellar experience. But with this one right here - the experience is always golden.
