Chihuahua Mexican Grill and Margarita Bar

When the invitation read “The Best Margaritas in Town”, I texted foodie friend Manila Boy, Spanky Enriquez at a breakneck speed to count me in.  Good thing my schedule that night was cleared because there isn’t a snowball chance in the desert that I’ll be missing this foodie night out at Chihuahua Mexican Grill and Margarita bar.

Truth be told, when it comes to beers, I have an alcohol tolerance of an infant.  But when it’s margaritas we are talking about, baby it’s a different story.  I was thinking that I was all set for the night holding my glass of margarita, also called Chihuahuarita, handed to me when I came in at the resto.  Little did I know, the best tasting margaritas in town that I gulped down with a little admixture of infatuation and wholesome malice towards it, was just an icing on the cake.

Margarita / Chihuahuarita!

Owned by Ines Cabarrus and Elian Habayeb, authors of the book “Manila’s Best Kept Restaurant Secrets”, Chihuahua Mexican Grill and Margarita Bar is one Tex-Mex resto you wouldn’t want to miss if you’re into good Tex-Mex food and good times.

Gorgeous couple, Elian and Ines, owner of Chihuahua

First thing we feasted on was a bowl of Nacho Chips with three different kinds of dips.  Cheese sauce was the first dip which grabbed my attention.  It looked innocent enough, so I dig in with much gusto.  Its creaminess was the first thing that greeted me.  But as Spanky would aptly put it, “this one is a traitor.”  Enjoy the creaminess while it lasts because the kick of spiciness at the end lingers.  The other one was Habanero Salsa which was a marriage of sour and spicy flavor.  Last one which looked like Chili Con Carne to me was downright spicy, the meanest of the three.

Their Nacho Bowl which was served in an aluminum bowl was fantastic.  On top of crunchy nacho chips was a rowdy mixture of chili con carne, guacamole, pico de gallo, beans, jalapeno, cheese sauce, and the whole she bangs, all screaming its distinct taste of its own which blends perfectly with each other.

I have tasted Steak Burrito in other Mexican Restaurant / Bar but nothing comes close to the glory that Chihuahua’s Steak Burrito holds.  The slices of grilled steak were so meaty and flavorful since they use USDA beef.  It may not as big as the one they sell in restaurants which boast of gigantic burritos but Chihuahua’s version was enough to satisfy big appetites.

Chicken Burrito Bowl was one of the many reasons why I will go back to Chihuahua.  To say that it was so good would be an understatement.  Yes, it was just burrito without the tortilla bread, but I kid you not when I say that it’s the experience of digging your spoon into the bowl of good gracious goodness wherein the moist grilled chicken was nestled that makes this dish good.

I may not be a fan of beer but Chihuahua’s Michelada was worth a try.  A combination of beer, Worcestershire sauce, seasoning sauce, and hot sauce.  Interesting combination, interesting flavor.  Aside from hard to find soft drinks, (e.g. Fanta, A&W Vanilla Cream, Cherry Coke and Cherry 7-UP) they also offer imported beers.

Hot sauce is one of the things that will cross your mind when we talk about Tex-Mex food.  Chihuahua is serious about that.

It’s not as if these hotties were not enough…

But they also have Hot Sauce Library.  And it’s not as if their Hot Sauce Library was not enough…

They have their own homemade hot sauce!  Foodies, meet Charlie Sheen Crazy Sauce.  The other one which doesn’t have a label at that time was, yes you got that right, Emilio Estevez Jock Sauce.  Clever, eh?  Next time I will definitely try their Krazy Mother Pucker’s Hot Sauce

More than the good food, great sound, happy ambiance, it’s the warm welcome that what makes Chihuahua Mexican Grill and Margarita Bar different from any other restaurants I’ve been to.  Friends who visited the place have same stories how welcoming Ines and Elian were, aside from the staff.

Their menu maybe limited but good way to look at it is that everything on it is a sure hit to the palate.  We told Ines that they could add choices of desserts on the menu as a change to the usual spicy line up they offer, and we were told that they are working on it. Although new to the industry, Chihuahua is fast becoming everyone’s favorite in terms of good food, good service, and good times.
