With numbers of restaurants sprouting here in Manila, it is good to know that restaurants which offers healthy and organic food is at par in providing people with not just what satisfy their palate, but nourish their body as well. One of the best healthy restaurants in Manila I have tried by far, I could say that Sugarleaf is one of them.
Known as one-stop shop for people who patronizes healthy organic products and scrumptious healthy food, Sugarleaf is on top of its game as it continue to provide people with their healthy offerings.
I have been to Sugarleaf's first branch along Wilsons St. in San Juan, and although it is near from where I reside, I must say that their new branch located at Medicard Lifestyle Center in Makati is worth the drive. With delectable dishes which uses organic ingredients still never fail to make me believe that indeed, healthy food can be downright delicious.
Their branch in Makati which opened last November 11, 2011 is a tad bigger as compare to the first branch and I love the fact that they have separate room within the Medicard Lifestyle Center building where they conduct their usual healthy talks, seminars, and symposium which Sugarleaf is known of. I have attended a Raw Food Preparation Workshop with Asha Peri at Sugarleaf before and I must say that workshop conducted by Sugarleaf are worth paying for since it imparts knowledge on healthy living.
My recent visit at Sugarleaf Makati with other foodies gave me a chance to try some healthy and delicious offerings that Sugarleaf serve to their guests. While I have tried some of the dishes during my visit at their San Juan branch, I am still in awe how these food could be so healthy yet so pleasing to the palate.
Their Goody Kefir Wraps, as always never fails to satisfy me both in terms of taste and servings. Their Free-Ranged Chicken Wrap (Php 238) isn't new to my taste as I have sampled this before, but the Smoked Fish Wrap as well as the Crabstick and Mango Wrap were both addition to my list of favorites at Sugarleaf.
The Smoked Fish Wrap (Php 238) reminds me of tuna wrap I normally get from other restaurants but it tasted rather fresher as compare. It uses dijon mustard that highlights the pleasant distinct taste of the fish rather than overpowers it. The Crabstick and Mango Wrap (Php 238) resembles to that of California Maki, only it has no rice but it is more filling. The Goody Kefir dressing drizzled on top of these cute logs adds flavor to the dish sending it a notch higher.
While I am aware that Sugarleaf serves good pasta, soup, and wraps, it was only during that recent visit that I realized how good they are with sandwiches as well. One that got me really raving is their Turkey Waldorf Sandwich (Php 208).
One can say that it is the usual take on Waldorf Salad in a sandwich but dare I say that it is so much more than that. For one, it uses gluten-free turkey which screams healthy meat on your face, and the other is that it uses cinnamon raisin bagel. At a glance I couldn't convince my self that cinnamon bread could work well with a filling that has mayonnaise on it. But alas, it does. The blending of flavor maybe complex considering the filling has apple, celery, cashew, and kefir nutmeg other than the home-made mayo and the turkey. But surprisingly, the mixture blends perfectly with one another.
The Iberico Joselito Belota Chorizo Sandwich (Php 228) is another impressive sandwich that graced our table during our lunch. This paprika spiced Spanish pork sausage is said to be low in cholesterol. The use of paprika lends a mild kick on the flavor so it isn't really overwhelming. It has alfafa sprouts which I dearly love so it is definitely a big plus on my book.
Another one is the Smoked Salmon & Dill Sandwich (Php 268). One can never go wrong with Norwegian Salmon on a sandwich so it was also a hit on the palate. The use of organic lettuce crisp only enhanced how refreshing this sandwich is.
I have fell in love with Sugarleaf's Homemade Fettuccini with Organic Pesto and Mango (Php 148) before and I wouldn't mind falling madly in love with it again over and over because it was really that good. It was a beauty to behold in appearance, and when it comes to taste, it was worthy to savor as it gives no room for guilt.
The Garden Greens Salad (Php 238) is the culmination of all the healthy organic greens there is to feast on. Packed with fresh lettuce, carrots, cucumber, red radish and beetroot which lends a beautiful hue to the bowl of screaming healthy organic offering. Served with three choices of dressing which are blueberry, passion fruit and lemon balm, indeed there is no room for boredom with this salad dish.
Jello's Vegan Cherry Pistachio and Vegan Vanilla Bean Ice Cream were served for our dessert. It's a non-dairy ice cream with coconut milk and kefir as its base. Given that is is a vegan treat, I was impressed at how good these palate cleansers were.
We were also served with Choco-Banana Organic Soya-Chia Milkshake and the Mixed Berry Goody Kefir-Chia Milkshake. The complex name of these shakes can be bothering but its taste invokes simplicity and freshness at its best.
Sugarleaf wouldn't be complete without the usual healthy products it offers to their customers so the first floor of the store is allocated for that alone. Same products available at their San Juan branch are also available here.
Things such as organic produce, food supplements, goody kefir, whole wheat products, vegan goodies, homemade salad and dressings, coco based products, and other things which promote health and wellness.
Some of my friends from the south were adamant in wanting to try out these healthy offerings by Sugarleaf but they find San Juan City really far from them so I was happy that they now have a branch in Makati area. It is really good to know that we have restaurants and shops like Sugarleaf which aims to promote healthy lifestyle among the people. Their seminars and workshops are also not to be missed even at least for once because grains of knowledge about healthy living and lifestyle.
