Recently, I was introduced to Pink Guava Café located along Quezon Ave. in Quezon City. While the area isn't really the place I would frequent to, I was glad that I took the long ride. Pink Guava Café is the kind of place where good food, nice service, and inviting ambiance merge together to provide a noteworthy dining experience to its customers.
I have to admit that I am a sucker for beautiful restaurants' interior. Not to be biased against downright simple hole-in-the-wall spot but I appreciate dining in places wherein food and service aren't the only things that are given importance but the ambiance as well. At Pink Guava Cafe, they wouldn't just quench your thirst nor just satisfy your tummies, they will also feed you visually.
While it can be passed of as yet another cafe, Pink Guava has a lot more to offer. This new player in the field boasts of their impressive line of drinks that ranges from, milk teas, espresso, coffees, frappe, ice blended, juices, with pasta, homemade pastries, and rice dishes on the menu to boot. Aptly named Pink Guava, their specialty drink uses guava fruit as its base.
Their menu is something that diners look forward to but stepping into the cafe, the first thing that one will notice is the modern and lively interior of the place. Its ambiance speaks to the kind of refreshing drinks they offer and the mood that one would get while dining at Pink Guava. Peppered with lively colors and quirky knick knacks all over the place, the ambiance exudes a friendly vibes where one would want to spend hours with their friends over good food and drinks.
During our visit, I was able to try three of the best sellers in their line of drinks; Dark Forest Frappé (Php130/16oz), Guava Lychee (Php120/22oz), and the Oreo Cream Cookies (Php 108).
If it's not from my favorite coffee shop, I am always hesitant to try
frappé coffee as I've had enough bad tasting frappés to last me a
lifetime. Good thing though that Pink Guava's Dark Forest Frappé do not
disappoint. It does not taste like some el cheapo frappé you can expect
from an unknown cafes. It clearly speaks of the best ingredients that
they use to create such a delightful drink worthy of your money.
I have also tried their Guava Lychee drink with different sinkers on it and though I am not a big fan of guava, I find the deal surprisingly pleasant to the palate. It does not scream sour taste in your face, rather the guava taste lends a refreshing beat to the drink. Currently, there are four guava based specialty drinks available; guava lychee, guava tea, guava yakult, and guava kumquat. But I was informed that they are in the process of developing more flavor which they will introduce soon. Different sinkers are also available to suit to everyone's taste; pearl, grass jelly, pudding, strawberry bobba, and rainbow.
Since I am a big fan of Happy Lemon's Rocksalt and Cheese drinks,Pink Guava's Cream Frosting line of drinks piqued my interest. I got to try their Oreo Cream Cookies and I fell for it in an instant. While it does not sport the usual cheese frosting on top of the drink like what I expected, the cream at the bottom was equally delightful. This alone can be the reason why I would want to go back at Pink Guava.
While the drinks I have tried were all impressive, I was all the more endeared to this cafe when they served dishes we have ordered. Pink Guava prided itself by serving humongous portion of their dishes for the price of one. Each dish are meant for sharing unless you have big appetite.
First dish I tried was Pink Guava's Tender Tapa (Php165). Served with big cup of rice, scrambled eggs, and mixed veggies, it can literally feed two person. Dare I say that it was one of the best tapa I have tried here in Manila! It kind of remind me with the tapas they are serving at Banapple only the portion is way bigger.
Next dish was their Bacon Carbonara (Php165). When it was placed on our table, my eyes almost pop out because of the huge servings. And while the portion rocked my world, the taste made me all the more impressed. I love how generous they are with the ingredients making the huge serving not just pleasing to the palate but to the eyes as well. Another thing that endears me to it is the way it tasted homemade and not commercial at all. Even my mom couldn't stop raving about how good their food were even days after visiting the cafe.
The area isn't as big as the usual coffee shops I frequent to but they have made used of the high ceiling and create a mezzanine to accommodate more customers. While they re still in the process of lending finishing touches to the mezzanine level, it is already in function and is frequently reserved by students and other diners where groups studies, meetings, and other gatherings are held. I particularly love the interesting mural on the wall and I am excited to see how it looked when they are finished decorating it.
Pink Guava Cafe is one of those cafes I wouldn't mind traveling for because I know that when I arrived, I can expect hearty meal and delightful drinks that can satisfy me. The dishes and drinks I have tried really impressed me and it only steeled my resolve to pay a visit again to try other things on their menu. I rarely encounter a start up cafe that impressed me with just one visit. With only a few months in operations, Pink Guava has a long way to go but I am glad to see that they are on the right track.
With several items on their menu that I would love to try, I cannot wait to go back.
