When I was invited to visit Desserts Specialist located in Quezon City I have nothing but big expectations. Owing to the fact that for one to be a specialist, there should be mastery of a certain craft involved. For a business which just started its operation last July of 2012 and call themselves a specialists, I know it must be something. Since it's desserts that we are talking about, despite the fact that I have to move mountains to fit the visit to my schedule, my friend Glenn of The Strolling Spoon Blog and I happily took the long ride to their location.
While I've been going on frequent trips to some restaurants in Quezon City particularly the Tomas Morato area for some food
scouting, Desserts Specialists' location at Scout Gandia is still
considered off the beaten track. A tad far from the stretch that houses
numbers of restaurants, it's the kind of dessert nook that you would need to make a conscious effort to locate to have your fair share of delectable desserts made by the specialists.
Macadamia Sans Rival |
It was late last year when we went there and having started its operation just months ago, the shop is in its bare minimum, interior design-wise. That didn't bother me because despite the simplicity, what we had feasted on were cornucopia of grand flavors that only true specialists can whip up.
Of the numbers of desserts we are scheduled to try, it was the Macadamia Sans Rival I was most excited about. Layers of crunchy meringue and butter cream dotted with bits and pieces of Macadamia nuts, dare I say that it's the best sans rival I've had in a long time. The butter cream does not overkill you with excessive creaminess the way usual sans rival does. And while Macadamia nuts does not look generous visually, it holds the right balance in terms of flavor and texture.
Chocolate Cupcake |
I am not really big on cupcakes but Desserts Specialists Chocolate Cupcake reminds me of the ones I used to enjoy during my childhood days. It's the kind of cupcake treat that nudges one to lick the chocolate with their fingers because with its downright richness, it's almost a sin not to.
The Tiramisu on the other hand is something I am picky about. My world was rocked countless of times by those great tiramisus I had in the past. When the tiramisu was served to us, just by the look of it, I know it's going to be an earth-shattering first bite. I was right. It screams of the right balance between creaminess, sweetness, and bitterness that in the end, you'll only have something beautiful playing in your palate.

Another one which earned my utter admiration that afternoon was their Cream Puff. A lot of dessert place promising delicious cream puff had broke my heart countless of times before and meeting Desserts Specialists Cream Puff is like meeting a soulmate. Its pastry shell was light and crisp, it's filling of custard and cream were a marriage of dainty flavors, and the crisp caramel on top was an added sugary delight. It's no doubt that it is their best seller.

Desserts Specialists' Revel Bar that sat shyly on the plate where it was served to us was not something that I would normally noticed. Yet, to my delight, this little block of dessert goodness was packed with sticky and gooey chocolate that I didn;t mind sticking to my tongue longer than it should.

Having been addicted to all things green tea lately, when we were served Green Tea Opera Cake, I was immediately transported to my green tea heaven. Luckily, the every bite did not disappoint. No it does not kill with excessive distinct taste of green tea, but rather, the interplay of flavor from the cream, chocolate, and green tea flirted with my palate that I couldn't stop at one bite after another. Considering I am a chocolate lover, the thick disc of Belgian chocolate layered on the cake was much appreciated.

Aside from these delightful desserts, they also serve seriously delicious coffee and drinks. The freshly brewed coffee I chose went well with everything we had feasted on. And judging by the look of my friend Glenn, I am pretty sure, his cappuccino also made an impression.
The only thing I could hope for the Desserts Specialists is for them to expand their menu. Everything we tried is well worth to be called made by the Specialists, so I am confident that whatever desserts addition to their menu, they can pull off really well. It is understandable that the place looked bare when we visited since they are a new player in the field. But having talked to the shy yet charming Elena Chew, one of the specialists/owners we were told that they are currently working on the interior of their store.
After my Desserts Specialists experience, I am looking forward to more trips there with my friends. Although limited, their line of desserts impressed me really well and I must say that it is something I could highly recommend to you my readers.
