With numbers of restaurants claiming to serve the best burgers in Manila, I still find a certain kind of bliss upon discovering new burger joint that dishes out unexpectedly mean burgers worth raving about. So, for weeks now, I have been stealing precious time from my rather crazy schedule just to scout for these nooks that will satisfy my burger cravings. There are times when I am lucky enough to find decent joints that caters to my carnivorous quest, and there are times when I would just go home in frustration.
One lucky moment includes the time when I was introduced to Granny's Burger located in Pasig City. This burger joint specializes in different burgers made of 1/3 pound pure Australian beef patty, specialty sandwiches, pastas, milkshakes, and more.
Tucked at the ground floor of LPI Center, a building near Valle Verde
Country Club and Tides Pasig, Granny's Burger location may be a tad small compare to other joints, but when it comes to the flavors of the dishes they are serving, they are definitely big.
Granny's Burger menu was kept neat with main focus on burgers. Having opened the store just late last year, they are still looking into creating new burger variants to be added on their menu. True to their tag line "big and tasty", diners have an option to go on single or double patties as they wish. While burger is their main star of this joint, they also boasts of other great tasting dishes on their menu. During our visit, we tried some of their burger variants, sandwich, and other items that still made me salivating up to this day.
Mamu Mozza Stuffed Burger (Php189/single patty, Php299/double patty)
I am a sucker for anything that has cheese on it so when I learned that they do serve mozzarella stuffed burger, I already knew what to order. Of course, opting for two patties will double the fun so that's what I did.
Two mozzarella stuffed 1/3 pound Australian beef patties with bacon, onion, lettuce, and tomato sandwiched between fluffy homemade burger buns with black sesame on top, Mamu Burger I must say was a heart stealer. Literally and figuratively. The patties were perfectly seasoned and its smoky flavor adds character to the already savory beef.
Presented with other enticing burger variants on the menu, we had a hard time deciding what else should we get. In the end, we decided to go for the Angus and the Wagyu.
Happy Angus Burger (Php199/single patty, Php379/double patty)
Two 1/3 pound Angus beef patties with lettuce, onion, tomato, and cheese, sandwiched between homemade buns. Since this deal is made with Angus beef, the patties leaned heavily on savory spectrum. I love how juicy and flavorful it was which went perfectly well with the soft buns.
Wagyu Burger (Php229/single patty, Php439/double patty)
In appearance, it looked exactly the same as the Angus variant considering it also has cheese, lettuce, onions, and tomato on it. The only difference is the type of beef they used for the patties. In terms of taste, I find Wagyu variant more beefy, hence, the smokey note on its taste was illuminated but not overpowering.
Mimi's Philly Sandwich (Php115)
Shreds of savory and juicy beef sauteed in caramelized onion, mushroom, garlic, and grilled peppers, sandwiched in between ciabatta bread and smothered with cheese on top.
We were told that Granny's version of philly sandwich is somehow
Filipinized because of its distinct pull in savory-sweet side of the
spectrum that fits Filipino palate as compare to its savory rendition.
Aside from burgers we also tried some items on the menu and one of them that caught our attention was their Crispy Chicken Cereal (Php180). Served with mashed potato on the side, Granny's Crispy Chicken Cereal was a sure treat for those who has affinity for crispy chicken. Since it uses cereal as a coating, the crispiness was still very apparent even if it took us a while to photograph the dishes before devouring it. I also love how flavorful and juicy the chickens were. It surely beat the crap out of the usual chickens from other restaurants.
We also tried deep fried mozzarella sticks called Granny's Bombers (Php109/5pcs). I love the crisp outer covering of the sticks that as you bit on it, you'll be greeted with melted cheese slowly dripping.
Granny's Tacos (Php180/3pieces), just like all the other dishes were equally satisfying. I love the subtle hint of spiciness that made it all the more palatable. I was too full by the time that I get to taste these tacos, but it still made an impression to me that I wouldn't mind having it on my next visit.
Even though I have always been a hardcore carnivore, I am still a sucker for good salad so we also tried G's Salad (Php129). Made with fresh Romaine lettuce, candied walnuts, Parmesan cheese, and balsamic vinaigrette, G's Salad is rather simple but I love the play on texture and taste that comes from the addition of candied walnuts. I also love the taste of the vinaigrette which wasn't overpowering.
For dessert we have Frozen Choco Banana (Php135) and Frozen Brazo (Php135). I find these two sweet treats downright impressive. The use of flavored ice cream sandwiched in between the crust and the custard was definitely delightful as it does not only contributed to the texture but the taste as well.
Just like any other burger joint, Granny's also serves sodas, juice, local and imported beer that can go perfectly well with the dishes they do serve. But when visiting them, one should not miss Granny's Milkshakes (Php99). Truth be told, theirs are one of the best milkshakes I have ever tried here in Manila. It was creamy without overwhelmingly so, and the flavors really stood out in every sip.
Prior to the visit, I thought that Granny's was just another burger place that serves well, burgers. Little did I know, Granny's Burgers delivers in terms of satisfying my mean cravings for burgers and all the good things that can go along with it. I love that the place was comfortable enough and the service, warm and welcoming. Indeed, Granny's Burger is one place I could recommend for burger lovers like myself because they dishes out decent burgers that are reasonably priced, and for non-burger lovers since they also do well in all the other dishes on their menu.
