I have to admit that it came as a surprise to me that one of my favorite Italian restaurants in Manila, Italianni's is actually serving breakfast. I have always been a fan of Italianni's but I guess not a good fan enough as I have missed the chance to savor their breakfast fare especially during the times when I was in search for good breakfast place. Oh well, I guess it's a good reason to make up for the lost times.
Although the breakfast items are not serve all day, 7am to 10:30am is plenty enough time to feast on breakfast dishes that Italianni's has to offer. Recent visit introduced me to the classic Italianni's breakfast items alongside some new breakfast creation by chef Josh Boutwood, the executive chef of Bistro Group.
We were told that as of the moment, breakfast menu at Italianni's is only available in two of their branches: Italianni's Bonifacio High Street and Italianni's Greenbelt. I wish though that they will eventually roll out the breakfast menu to the rest of the branches because their branch at Greenhills, Tomas Morato, and Gateway are the one I usually frequent to. Nonetheless, good breakfast fare is always worthy of the long travel.
Breakfast choices at Italianni's are pretty extensive just like their regular menu. That includes their new breakfast creations.
Homemade Corned Beef Brisket with Potato Omelet (Php 295)
Two big chunks of Mediterranean potato omelet topped with spinach, fried egg, and house specialty corned beef. The potato omelet is more of fritata, at least for me. It is a filling base which flavor goes perfectly well with the corned beef and egg.
Classic Egg Florentine (Php 275)
This rather healthy take on the usual eggs benedict is included on the new breakfast creations at Italianni's. It is essentially made of toasted English muffins topped with spinach, soft boiled eggs, and parmesan sauce. Although it lacks the usual spunk that any meat could lend to a breakfast fare, I find it palatable and filling.
Prosciutto Ham, Soft Egg & Asparagus (Php 275)
This breakfast dish is technically Eggs Florentine at a glance, but the use of asparagus and the addition of premium prosciutto made it all the more satisfying. Smothered with Parmesan sauce, this breakfast dish is aesthetically pleasing both to the eyes and the palate.
Classic Eggs Benedict (Php 325)
This classic breakfast dish has been at Italianni's breakfast menu since day one, we were told. It is technically the well-loved combination of English muffin, smoked ham, and poached egg, topped with hollandaise sauce. Eggs Benedict is always a default choice for me when it comes to brekky fare, and Italianni's version of it fortunately suits to my liking. Not to be missed also is their Eggs Benedict Adobo which uses adobo flakes instead of the usual smoked ham.
Mushroom and Spinach Crepe (Php 195)
Italianni's breakfast menu also included crepes which includes mushroom and spinach variant served with feta cheese thrown into the mix for a good measure. While it may look rather straightforward and really simple, the vinaigrette like sauce doused over the mix was what made this crepe a winner.
Rise and Shine (Php 275)
This platter comprise of egg with your choice between golden pancakes and French toasts, and choice between bacon and sausage. It is the kind of platter with no pretensions, only good selections that one may devour and feel satisfied afterwards.
Primera Tapa (Php 395)
I rarely order tapa or tapsilog for breakfast but Italianni's Primera Tapa made a fan out of me. Premium quality marinated thinly sliced beef sereved with savory garlic rice and fried egg, this dish is worth waking up early for, trust me. The additional slices of watermelon that comes with it is an added bonus to complete an indulging breakfast meal.
Crispy Pancetta Bacon (Php 375)
Another breakfast dish that can rock one's world when dining at Italianni's is this pancetta bacon served with two fried eggs and garlic fried rice. Although thick cut, it still posses the crisp texture that most of us love in our bacon. The flavor is not downright comparable to that of the usual bacon, however, its savory taste is equally satisfying if not addicting.
Arroz Caldo Supreme (Php 195)
With an aim to cater to every diners from all walks of life, believe it or not, Italianni's has arroz caldo on their menu. Generously topped with shredded chicken, vegetables, fried garlic, and boiled egg, Italianni's Congee is a hearty bowl of well-loved Pinoy dish.
Breakfast menu wouldn't be complete without the proverbial pancakes to it. While Italianni's has been serving golden pancakes since it opened for breakfast, recent addition to the breakfast menu called for impressive pancake creations. Hence, the three new flavored pancakes.
Classic Blueberry (Php 275)
A stack of three fluffy golden buttermilk pancakes topped with generous blueberry preserves and a dollop of whipped butter.
Banana and Walnuts Pancake (Php 275)
Little chunks of ripe banana and toasted walnuts topped with whipped butter and drizzled with maple syrup made the stack of three buttermilk pancake all the more filling and delightful to the palate.
Chocolate and Orange Pancake (Php 275)
Stack of three chocolate-flavored buttermilk pancakes topped with orange wedges and dollop of whipped butter drizzled with chocolate syrup. Of all the three pancakes, my palate favored this one well.
Breakfast meal at Italianni's comes with your choice of brewed coffee or hot chocolate. If you are not in the mood for hot drinks, the usual line of impressive drinks are always available.
There are a lot of items at Italianni's breakfast menu that I have yet to try, like what I have said, I need to make up for the lost times. So far, what I have sampled on their menu were pleasant enough for me to revisit for their breakfast. I just wish that more Italianni's branches would soon be open for breakfast.
