When I learned that Stockton Place, a fairly new restaurant in Makati City serves mean and manly steak of good quality, I promised myself to visit. Schedule of available reservation was always against my free time. Yet, as luck would have it, fate smiled at me and gave me the illusive chance to finally visit Stockton Place. As an added bonus, I was in the company of dome of my favorite food bloggers in Manila. Thank you, Universe.
Stockton Place is located at Salcedo St. in Makati, just next door to its sibling, the speakeasy-style cocktail bar, the Blind Pig. Since it opened this year, foodies from all over Manila have been raving about the goodness of food at Stockton Place.
The place although small exudes a contemporary ambiance made classy with its prominent color of black and white. It can house roughly 30 person, and is open from Monday to Saturday, dinner time only. Hence, reservation is highly encouraged. We came just right in time for our reservation and the place wasn't full yet. But couple of minutes later, it was a full house.
We are scheduled for another dining engagement that night that features delicious Christmas drinks which can be treated as desserts. Hence, the limited options on the menu did not matter to us a bit. Our main focus was to try the much raved about macho of a steak and then some that will complete our meal.
First on the table was the Foie Gras Salad (Php450). A healthy dish made indulgent, so it is a mix of both worlds. Essentially, just like some salad dishes, it comprised of fresh leafy greens, pickled cocktail onion, topped with shavings of foie gras. It also came with peanut puree that gives a different dimension of flavor to the dish.
We were excited for the steak, but our group will not pass on anything that involves pork belly, hence Crispy Pork Belly (Php650) needed to grace our table, and it did.
Thick slice of pork belly in its majestic and downright impressive tenderness sat in a puddle of cherry pork sauce. Pommery mashed potato and onion puree were an added flavor, but even in its absence, the pork belly really stood out.
Now, when the much awaited USDA Prime Grade Ribeye (Php 450 per 100g / serving size available is 800g to 1200g per steak) was served to us, I was THIS close to bursting to a heartfelt applause because it was humongous!
Served with crisp fried potatoes, this steak is smothered with Bordelaise sauce and topped with roasted garlic. Price is a bit steep, but I could say that it was well worth every peso. Perfectly cooked into medium rare, the fat I deem was perfectly distributed to the entire steak, we are lucky to be given that specific cut, because in my opinion, it was just perfect.
Stockton Place did not disappoint. I was expecting that since they are fairly new, there will be some room for improvement but I was amazed that the service was friendly and fast, the ambiance was conducive to an unforgettable dinner with friends and loved ones, while the food was just impeccable.
Will I go back again? Certainly, crossing my fingers for a clear calendar that can accommodate a reservation with other friends soon.
