Yesterday we visited the Super Bowl of China located at the Atrium of SM Megamall. Together with some of Manila Food Bloggers and some friends at media, we checked out what's new at the Super Bowl. I was under the impression that there will be new Chinese cuisine on the menu they will be launching, little did I know, there will be plenty of new things unfolding.
Super Bowl of China has been known for its affordable and quality Chinese dishes. Way back, Super Bowl was one of those Chinese restaurants that my family and I would often go to. As the restaurant scene in Manila boom, my affinity for Super Bowl took a back seat for a while because there are plenty new more restaurants to try.
Then suddenly, I was reminded that this old time favorite Chinese restaurant is still well worth a visit. As a proof that Super Bow of China is still on top of it game, they recently made a revamp to its SM Megamall branch. From the store interior to the food attendants uniform up to several items on the menu, change for the better is the name of the game. This change will soon roll out to all Super Bowl of China branches in the Philippines such as at SM Mall of Asia, Festival Mall in Alabang, the the soon to open branch at Robinsons Place Manila.
NEW INTERIOR and DECOR
Although the old interior design of Super Bowl of China at SM Megamall wasn't really old fashioned, the recent revamped took the ambiance several notch higher giving the place a modern vibe with classic and sophisticated flair. Lattice woodwork that gives the place an oriental feel is very apparent. Tables and chairs are refashioned elegantly to give not just an illusion of space but comfort to the diners as well.
A noticeable infographic decor plastered on the wall also gives a breath of fresh air to the place. We were informed that this unique wall decor will give the guest a quick glance into Super Bowl of China's history, personality, and a good preview of its best selling dishes. Along with the change in interior, food attendants' uniform were also redesigned to fit to the restaurant's theme.
NEW LOGO and MENU DESIGN
Super Bowl of China is also now sporting a new logo. It now features a modern look but the iconic bowl which the restaurant is known for is still ever present. The non-removal of the iconic bowl in the logo is a tribute to the brand's heritage.
NEW DISHES
Along with the renovation of the store and the changes in some aspect, Super Bowl of China also introduces new exciting items on the menu.
The Red Bean Milk Tea (Php85) is a brewed Chinese tea blended with milk and topped with sweet red bean. This delicious version of milk tea made a big fan out of me with its perfect sweetness and refreshing flair.
The Beef Ampalaya with Black Beans (Php300) is tender slices of beef and thinly sliced bitter melon (ampalaya) sauteed with sliced carrots, mushrooms, black beans, and spices made all the more delicious with dark soy and oyster sauce. I am a big fan of ampalaya hence, this dish is a winner for me. The bountiful slices of tender beef was a big big bonus, of course.
The Hot Chicken Salad (Php270) is boneless battered fillet of chicken tossed in homemade mayonnaise and assorted fruits sprinkled with lemon rinds. While I am so used to this kind of dish in a seafood variant, this version with chicken on it I deem, is also a winner.
The Beef Hofan (Php260) is also one of the new dishes which I took a great liking to. It's essentially Shanghai flat noodles sauteed in the combination of dark soy and oyster sauce topped with white onion, leeks, and generous slices of premium beef. I rarely eat flat noodles because I find the diameter of it an unnecessary extension of the noodles innate blandness. Good thing that the beef and the sauce were enough to make this dish downright flavorful.
The Pork Wanton with Mala Sause (Php95) is a new additon to the already impressive selections of dim sum at the Super Bowl of China. It is basically steamed ground pork meat in wanton wrapper topped with mildly spicy Mala sauce.
NEW LOVE for the OLD FAVORITES
Although peppered with several changes, the Super Bowl of China managed to retain the old time favorite dishes on the menu. They just tweaked the food styling and presentation a bit but the quality and the taste its patron grown to love are still there.
Dining at the Super Bowl of China wouldn't be complete without feasting on the favorites such as the Dimsum Combination Platter (Php310), Yang Chao Fried Rice (Php260), Sweet and Sour Pork (Php295), and the classic Super Bowl Lemon Chicken (Php270) among many others.
Desserts are still an important part of dining at the Super Bowl of China hence, the classic Peanut Buchi (Php100/4pcs) and the Black Gulaman with Lychee (Php95) are still as enticing as ever. The Taho (Php110) on the other hand is still the crowd's forever favorite.
If my memory serves me right, the last time I was at the Super Bowl of China was during the time when their branch in Glorietta is still open. Now that they have undergo some great changes, I must say I will see myself dining there more often again.
