I chanced upon Little House of Cheesecakes and More in Antipolo City while I was working on a write up for one of the food magazines I am writing for. Situated at the new commercial complex that boasts of new restaurants and food stores near Ynares Center in Antipolo, The Little House of Cheesecakes is not really hard to locate.
The name may imply that the store sells different kinds of cheesecakes
you could ever imagine. I myself, was under that impression. Yet, my
visit opened my eyes to this wonderful little world of well yes,
cheesecakes - and then some. That includes one of my most favorite
things in the world - books.
I notice that there is a sudden wave of new restaurants opening in Antipolo City and as a blogger, it really makes me happy. So, in continuing with my Antipolo Food Trip Blog Series for YedyLicious, let us talk about The Little House of Cheesecakes and More (LHCM).
A big scribble of words stating "Welcome to our home" on the wall is an apt statement because they mean it. Dining at The Little House of Cheesecakes feels like dining at someone else home - someone who cares for you and will make you feel like a family from the get go.
Its bright yellow color that beckons is inviting enough but what lured me into this little house are the numerous books displayed all through out the area which diners can borrow while dining at the store. All sorts of famous books are there, from the writings of John Green, E.L. James, Nicholas Sparks, Jeff Kinney, Veronica Roth, to Sen. Miriam Santiago - just to name a few.
Owned by four lovely ladies named Candy, Jen, Gie, and Pam who have been friends for years now, The Little House of Cheesecakes is a product of passion for food, dedication to serve good food, and willingness to be of help to others.
I was lucky to have met three of them during my visit one afternoon and while my main goal is to know more about the restaurant, I cannot help but talk about other things. That includes some personal stuff, thoughts about life mainly, because these ladies are just so amazing they made me feel like I'm talking to friends.
There are a lot of things to say about the cuteness of the place and the kindness of people at The Little House of Cheesecakes it will probably take too much space for one blog post. But since I am sure that this is not the only time that I am going to write and share my thoughts about them, I shall go straight on food talks for now.
Cheesy Beef Nachos
If the sight of the generous beef toppings and the equally generous cheese sauce wouldn't entice you to grab a bite or two of this dish, I don't know what will. The Little House of Cheesecakes and More is a nice place where you can meet up with friends to catch up over good food, this nacho is one of those you would want to munch on while doing that.
French Fries (Php47)
Also a great snack, The Little House of Cheesecakes' French Fries is included in their "Food For The Little Prince" menu - basically those stuff which can be enjoyed by kids and kids at heart of course. Downright simple but filling nonetheless.
Spammy Fries (Php77)
Spam lovers rejoice with The Little House of Cheesecakes' Spammy Fries. If one is tired of having potato fries and would want to have something different but equally satisfying, then this one will fit the bill. It's appearance can be easily mistaken as cheese sticks, but it was Spam, really. And it's good and addicting. I could easily polished it off in one sitting but then again, there are other things I need to try on the menu.
So-Fish World
This is one of the new items that The Little House of Cheesecakes released recently. It is basically Fish and Chips made with love, hence it's very filling and satisfying. I love that it was not too oily and the serving was very generous. I also love the word play on its name because I am a fan of Jostein Gaarder and Sophie's World is the second book I have read in his works, Solitaire Mystery being the first.
Santino's Excellente Creamy Carbonara Spaghetti (Php107)
Pasta dishes at The Little House of Cheesecakes, let me tell you, are the kinds that makes you fell as if you're at home, or someone else's for that matter, since it is very hearty and does not taste commercialized at all. Home cooked pasta meals may be the right description and this kind of cooking holds the charm for me. This carbonara dish was creamy and really flavorful, I wouldn't mind having it again.
Michael's La Scelta Cheese Beefy Lasagna (Php117)
If you are wondering about what is up with the names of this pasta, to those who are not familiar, it has reference to Mario Puzo's novel, The Godfather. This lasagna, just like the carbonara was also good. Very creamy and beefy at the same time. The serving is big so it can be shared by two people.
Don Corleone Pasta Spaghetti (Php97)
I was not expecting to go crazy over simple spaghetti dish, but Little House of Cheesecakes' version of tomato spaghetti was just so satisfyingly good, it reminded me of the kind that my elder sister cooks every weekend when I was still a kid. It was so good, my younger sister who was with me during my trip to LHCM kept raving about it.
Who Moved My Philly Cheesesteak Rice (Php127)
Also one of the new items released and probaby not yet reflected on their menu by the time I am writing this, this dish is basically all the good things that comprised a Philly Cheesesteak sans the bread. Instead of the bread however, the cheesy beef sat on a bed of pandan rice. Comfort food at its finest!
Mockingjay Beef Salpicao (Php127)
I love beef salpicao and The Little House of Cheesecakes' version of it was so good it made me forget when was the last time I ever had salpicao this good. The chunks of beef were tender and flavorful - a clear indication that it was made for good hours. Best eaten with LHCM's signature heart shaped pandan rice.
The Cheesy Son of a Beef Caldereta (Php127)
This beef caldereta dish is definitely one of the reasons why I will be coming back at The Little House of Cheesecake, to be honest. It's flavor and texture and its goodness in general transported me to my grandma's kitchen from way back. I really cannot count how many times I've said the words "Oh, this is so good" during the course of my meal. The beef was so tender and cheesy. The spice level was just perfect. The serving portion was hefty it can be shared - or not, because you would want to have it all to your self. It was that good.
The Porkchop Transfer with Mushroom Gravy (Php97)
Let me note that the names of the rice meals at LHCM has reference to both Mockingjay and Divergent - just in case you are getting confused. So, this porkchop may look like your usual liempo but be not deceived because it was bursting with flavor while the mushroom gravy was nothing like any gravy I ever had.
So we have arrived at the Cheesecake part of this post. Currently there are 10 cheesecake flavors available at The Little House of Cheesecake and they are tagged on the menu as "The 10 Shades of Cheesecake" - cool, right? Flavors includes blueberry, mango, strawberry, oreo, red velvet, brownie chocolate, carrot honey, marbles matcha, caramel, and nutella. They have this new flavor however, the Mango and Pineapple Cheesecake which ended up as my favorite among the ones I have tried.
No usual slices of cheesecake here because their signature cheesecake is housed in a cute little jars as shown on the photos below. Regular jar is priced at Php187 while the mini jar is priced at Php97 only. 6" and 9" whole cheesecakes are also available depending on availability.
Milkshakes (Php127)
We have tried two of the milkshake flavors available at The Little House of Cheesecakes - chocolate and strawberry. I really cannot decide which one is my favorite because both were good. It definitely is not your run-of-the-mill kind of milkshakes because each sip was a clear sign that a good quality ice cream is used.
French Press Coffee (97) and Tsokolate Eh (Php47)
Although it looks like a cafe, The Little House of Cheesecakes and More is really a family restaurant that serves comfort food aside from their specialty, the cheesecakes. That is not to say that they lack in terms of coffee selections because that too, you may enjoy at LHCM.
I was able to try French Press coffee which was perfect combination with the cheesecakes. I also tried the Tsokolate Eh which was basically a hot chocolate drink, comforting and not overly sweet.
I have only visited The Little House of Cheesecake and More one time and with my experience, they already move on top of my favorite list of restaurants in Antipolo City. Honestly, I was expecting that my visit will be peppered with too much cheesecakes but I was surprised that while the cheesecakes were good, other items on the menu which I tries were also surprisingly good.
Needless to say, I can see myself coming back at The Little House of Cheesecakes and More to try some of the food on their menu and perhaps spent sometime there reading the some book they generously lend to their diners.
