So this is the story about how I single-handedly down some manly Wagyu burgers and the much needed Weihenstephan Bavarian Lager on a Friday while I watched the wold pass me by.
Okay, I'm kidding.
This blog post is about the new Premium Wagyu Burger Selections by Chef Josh Boutwood at Village Tavern in BGC. World of Burgers as they are tagged since each was inspired by flavors around the world.
I was meaning to join some friends so that I could try all four new Wagyu burgers but my schedule is so screwed I ended up facing the mission by my lonesome. So yes, somehow, this is the story about how I single-handedly down some manly Wagyu
burgers and the much needed Weihenstephan Bavarian Lager on a Friday
while I watched the wold pass me by.
Or something to that effect.
So there are four Premium Wagyu Burger Selections namely Oktoberfest, Mexican, Waldorf, and Monte Carlo.
I could easily order all four and stuff myself silly to a mental stupor and spend the next days questioning my choices in life, but I figured I still have stuff to do this weekend. So I ended up having just two out of the four and took a mental note to come back again for the other two.
First on the table was the Waldorf (Php625) described on the menu as Wagyu patty topped with a classic mix of fresh apple, celery, walnuts, and St. Nectaire cheese.
I opted for this one mainly because I figured it is basically a combination of Wagyu burger and Waldorf salad. And if you signed up for an afternoon of solitary Wagyu beef burger feast, your conscience will naturally dictates that you will be needing salad. To offset the guilt - to put it bluntly.
Do I end up liking this burger? Certainly. The salad on top provides a refreshing respite to an otherwise savory inundated track of flavor coupled with the distinctive earthy taste of the cheese.
Its flavor profile I deem is something that fits for ladies despite its macho serving portion. Not to be sexist, may be it's just me since I have not met a man who wants apple salad on their burger. Or maybe I have been living in a cave and know nothing. Overall, I find this burger impressive in terms of flavor and execution.
Next burger was the Monte Carlo (Php695) which is essentially a Wagyu burger topped with St. Nectaire cheese, olive tepanade, and Prosciutto ham.
At first I thought that this burger had me at Prosciutto. Until I realized that the olive tepanade was another reason I enjoyed this burger. I love olives. I love it even before Popeye does. Okay that's not the point I am getting at but you get the idea.
The thing with this burger is that since it is lovingly smothered with olive tepanade, some who does not find bliss in olives might find it less desirable. It can easily be tainted by the proverbial fear that lies in the notion of acquired taste.
But then, if you get passed that aversion, you'll be rewarded with a combination of exciting taste like no other. Also, it's a Wagyu beef with Prosciutto on top - reason enough to unleash the adventurous side of you.
I knew right then that these burgers were more than enough to keep me happy the day of my visit at Village Tavern. It even made me all the more excited to come back to try the other two burgers. Until I learned that Village Tavern has this promo of 30% off of your beer price tag before 7pm.
Burger and beer. It's payday Friday after all.
Not gonna lie, I was smiling like an idiot as I made my way through my lager and watched the world pass me by.
