There is a noticeable proliferation of board game cafes these days and one of those that recently opened is Kings & Pawns Board Game Cafe located in Marikina City. There are a lot of homegrown restaurants and cafes in Marikina City but Kings & Pawns is one of the first few board game cafes in the area.
Just like any other board game cafes, Kings & Pawns offers variety of board games alongside number of food items that diners may enjoy while playing. What sets them apart however is that there is no time/game limit nor minimum order needed to enjoy board games on this cafe.
There are only few board games that I get to enjoy but give me good food choices and I will certainly be there. So I visited Kings & Pawns one afternoon to check out their offerings.
First on the table was the Sweet Chili Chicken (Php200) which was basically Kings & Pawns' version on Buffalo chicken wings. I love that the spice level of the chicken wasn't too overwhelming making it an easy and enjoyable grub both for adults and kids alike.
I also tried the Fish and Chips Basket (Php200) which was good enough in terms of flavor and serving portion.
For the mains, Kings & Pawns offers this Specialty Steak (Php300) which they tagged as Food for the Gods on their menu. I find it good enough if one hankers for a good piece of meat without breaking the bank.
Part of their All Day Breakfast Menu was the Bacon Meal (Php200) served with egg and rice. One cannot go wrong with bacon so I am pretty happy with this meal.
The Clubhouse Sandwich (Php180) was equally impressive in terms of flavor, however the serving portion is only good for one compared to all other clubhouse sandwiched I have tried elsewhere within the same price range. Nonetheless it was a good option if you want a filling sandwich with fries on the side.
The Classic Carbonara (Php150) was as good as a classic can get. It was creamy and the pasta was perfectly al dente.
There are several drinks items on the menu such as the Houseblended Iced tea (Php60) and Cucumber Lemonade (Php60) which are both good and refreshing. But if you crave for something more fancy, then the Oreo Milkshake (Php180) can be a good option as it can be doubled as a dessert to end a satisfying meal.
I find the food at Kings & Pawns Board Game Cafe in Marikina good and at some point it even reminded me of home cooked meals instead of the usual commercialized ones we can find in any other cafes. The service was fast and efficient and the prices were reasonable.
Since Kings & Pawns Board Game Cafe do not require minimum order price nor limited time frame/games set, the place can get a bit jam packed and a long wait if you were not able to secure a table right away. Nonetheless, it is one of the cafes in Marikina well worth visiting.
