It was a lunch gathering I almost missed, my first visit at Wolfgang's Steakhouse Philippines located at the Newport Mall of Resorts World Manila. Good thing that I got friends who share the same affinity for manly meat and who are considerate enough to knock some sense to me that luncheon such as this should not be missed - I am lucky.
And of course, any self-respecting meat lover wouldn't pass on the chance to dine at critically acclaimed steakhouse from New York City and is said to be the first and the only steakhouse in the country which has its own dry aging room.
Much has been said about Wolfgang's Steakhouse by Wolfgang Zwiener since it opened its first branch here in the Philippines. Its history is quite impressive since Wolfgang Zwiener boasts of 40 years experience as a head waiter at the famous Peter Luger's steakhouse in New York.
Aside from the restaurants impressive roots and background, another thing that makes it well worth the attention is its own dry aging room. Dry aging is the process which enhances the flavor and the tenderness of the meat. At Wolfgang's Steakhouse, they dry aged meats under a controlled temperature and humidity environment of their dry aging room for an average of 28 days.
Perfect prelude to our meaty feast at Wolfgang's Steakhouse were baskets of bread and the signature Beverly Hill Chopped Salad. Both were impressive and did a great job in pumping up or appetite for other dishes to some.
The Beverly Hill Chopped Salad (Php488) in particular may look like downright simple but the combination of Romaine lettuce, fresh baby spinach, hearts of palm, green peas, carrots, cucumber, sweet red pepper, corn, avocado, feta cheese, house vinaigrette was just perfect it might be one of the best salads I have had recently.
It is said that Wolfgang's Steakhouse chose only USDA Prime Grade
Angus beef for superior quality texture, tenderness, flavor, and
marbling. So despite the hefty price tag, you know that you are in for
something impeccably amazing at this steakhouse.
First of the manly meats on our table was the Signature Porterhouse Steak for Two (Php5,408/1kg). Perfectly cooked to our liking which is medium rare, this one is hands down my favorite in the lot we have tried and definitely one of the best steaks I ever had. Since it is meant for sharing, the serving portion was big that even anyone with huge appetite for meat might think twice if they can finish a serving of it solely.
Since it was a weekend during our visit, we got to try Wolfgang's Steakhouse Philippine's USDA Prime Rib Weekends which includes 2kg of Prime Ribs, side dishes, and 3 pints of beer.
We tried two USDA Prime Rib, one was cooked medium while the other one was medium rare. As per usual, I always favor medium rare when it comes to my steak but taking into consideration the quality of meat, even the one cooked medium, I find equally highly satisfying.
The meat feast alone were good enough to make me a happy camper and made waking up early that Sunday to travel from Antipolo to Pasay well worth it. Yet, the side dishes as well as the dessert made the entire feast all the more satisfying and impressive.
Side dishes we feasted on include mashed potato and creamed spinach - both of of which are included on the Prime Rib Weekend deal we had. But other side dishes I find downright perfect accompaniment to the steaks were the German Potato (Php288) and of course, the Steak Rice (Php268).
Aside from meat, there are of course other items on Wolfgang's Steakhouse menu which are perfect if you have a companion who are not really fond of steaks. I heard the grilled salmon, jumbo lobster, and lobster mac and cheese were pretty solid options.
For the dessert, we feasted on the dessert platter which includes my personal favorite, the Key Lime Pie, the equally satisfying Cheesecake, and the downright delectable Chocolate Mousse.
If you happen to crave for really mean and impressive manly steaks, I highly recommend you try Wolfgang's Steakhouse Philippines' steak offerings. The Porterhouse Steak I find really impressive and I certainly can vouch for its goodness. The Prime Ribs were also good options especially if you are looking to share it with your loved ones.
