It was almost lunch time when we arrived in Cebu during the Cebu Food Crawl with the Food Crew PH. Some of us are already starving, so, right after checking into our hotel and freshening up a bit, we went our merry way to the first restaurant stop of our first day in Cebu – Choobi Choobi Restaurant.
Choobi Choobi Restaurant has been in the business for quite a while. Good quality seafood, generous serving portion, and price tag that do no break the bank are some of the reasons why Choobi Choobi Restaurant is one of the most famous restaurants in Cebu.
Choobi Choobi Restaurant has been in the business for quite a while. Good quality seafood, generous serving portion, and price tag that do no break the bank are some of the reasons why Choobi Choobi Restaurant is one of the most famous restaurants in Cebu.
There are several Choobi Choobi Restaurant branches in all of Cebu and they are located at Mactan, SM City, SM Seaside City, Robinsons Cyberspace Cebu, Robinsons Galleria Cebu, Parkmall, Pueblo Verde, and Mactan Newtown. And just recently, they have finally opened a branch here in Manila.
We were served with variety of dishes and most of it were known as the restaurant’s best sellers. The serving portions were huge that even for someone like me who has a hefty appetite find the feast a bit overwhelming but definitely a welcome one.
Some of the dishes that made our afternoon a delicious affair were Tinolang Manok Bisdak, Chilean Mussels in a Bag, The Golden Pompano Fish, Choobi Pata, Lola Pepang’s Fried Manok, Stan’s Black Pepper Shrimp, Stan’s Fried Black Pepper Shrimp, Seafood Barkada Bag, and Cha Tao Miao or Stir Fried Snow Pea Sprout.
Everything was impressive in terms of flavor and serving portion that I definitely wouldn’t mind having all of it again should I get a chance to visit one of Choobi Choobi Branches.
Yet there are three dishes that really stood out and one of them was the Seafood Barkada Bag which comprised of Shrimps, Chilean Mussels, Squid, Chorizo, Crab, and Sweet Corn. It was a feast in itself and I am pretty confident that while the bag is good for 5 to 6 persons, I can definitely finish it by my lonesome in one go.
I also find the Stan’s Black Pepper Shrimp highly impressive and definitely addictive. If my memory serves me right, the people behind Choobi Choobi is one of the biggest exporter of shrimps in the country. That explains why they can manage to market their shrimp products at such affordable price with impressive quality.
Just because Choobi Choobi is mainly a seafood restaurant, it does not mean that they fall short when it comes to meat dishes. As a matter of fact, I find their Choobi Pata one of the best tasting crispy pata I have ever had recently. I love the crispness of the skin which compliments the tender and flavorful meat of the pork knuckle.
In all honesty, I only have good words for Choobi Choobi Restaurant. It is very fortunate that they were the first restaurant we got to visit because they left such a good impression on our group. I would definitely visit their branch here in Manila and if ever I find myself in Cebu again soon, Choobi Choobi will be on top my food trip list.
