Just when you thought that you have already tried all the best restaurants along Lilac St. in Marikina City, there are relatively new players in the field that are well worth the visit. It is true that there several restaurants and even food parks sprouting all over Marikina these days but the food scene at the pioneer and famous foodie haven Lilac St. still deserve the attention,
One of these restaurants I am talking about is Bigaw’s Brick Oven Pizza that serves pizza, pasta, and a whole lot more.
I was recently introduced to Bigaw’s Pizza and to this day, I am still dreaming of having that amazing Kebab Pizza again. And that Baked Lasagna which flavor is as impressive as its hefty serving portion – still makes me salivate even at its mere thought.
I am actually quite puzzle and a bit sad at the same time that this good restaurant is not getting the attention it deserves. I mean, their food are good and reasonably priced, the service is warm and efficient, the place is well designed and clean. If I live in Marikina, Bigaw’s is probably one of the restaurants I would certainly frequent to, that’s for sure.
Bigaw’s menu is pretty straightforward with main focus on its specialty which are variety of pizza cooked in a brick oven. There are also some sandwiches, burgers, pastas, finger food, and even a couple of rice meals. It is impossible to try all I want on their menu in one go, but what I was able to enjoy during my recent visit were enough for me to consider Bigaw’s as one of restaurants in Marikina that I can highly recommend.
First on the table was Bigaw’s Angus Burger Sliders (Php190). Served with French fries on the side, these three bite-sized can be a main meal on its own. But it did a good job as a prelude to all the great things yet to come to our table. I love how juicy and downright flavorful the Angus beef burger patties were – a clear indication that it was perfectly cooked and that it was indeed a high-quality beef to begin with.
Next was the Grilled Cheese Sandwich (Php150) a hefty serving of comfort food made with mozzarella, cheddar, and Mornay sauce sandwiched in between Bigaw’s house dough bread. As with any grilled cheese sandwich, this also comes with a serving of hot tomato soup that goes perfectly well with the grilled sandwich. The serving portion is quite big that it can be shared between two persons.
Then we had my personal favorite, Bigaw’s Baked Lasagna (Php180). I love lasagna in general but Bigaw’s version of it has that home-cooked-comfort-food feel to it. The ratio of the different sauces to the pasta is just perfect, making the flavor well-balanced and satisfying.
We also had the Spaghetti Vongole (Php175) Such a scene-stealer of a dish because of its aesthetics while the flavor didn’t fall short of amazing either. The Manila clams and green mussels were on a generous portion that it both lends great impact on the overall flavor. This is perfect dish for those who loves the distinct taste of seafood. No wonder it is one of the best sellers.
Bigaw’s Brick Oven Pizzas are hand rolled and freshly made upon order. One of their best sellers is the Taco Pizza (Php240) which is everything you love in a taco dish served in a pizza form. While it was not the first taco pizza I have had, it was certainly one of the best. I love that while the unassailable taste of Mexican spice is ever present, it does not overwhelm the palate just like a normal Mexican dish would.
While the Taco Pizza was already quite an amazing choice, I was totally blown away by the goodness of Bigaw’s Kebab Pizza (Php275). I love me some good Mediterranean food the fact that Bigaw’s Kebab Pizza was well executed steel my resolved that it was one of the best pizzas I have eaten recently. The balance in flavor is just perfect that even a non-kebab eater who I was with that time also agreed that it was a great pizza indeed. Definitely one of the dishes you should not missed when dining at Bigaw’s.
The owners of Bigaw’s also owns Crepeman, a store that specializes in crisp crepe also located along Lilac St. With that, BIgaw’s customers may opt to order from Crepeman and have it served to them while dining at Bigaw’s. It was my first time to try Crepeman and what was served to us which I believe was a special Mango crepe really impressed me. A perfect ending to a perfectly satisfying meal at Bigaw’s.
If you are a longtime reader of this blog, you would probably know that I only write about restaurants which I really like. I have tried several restaurants in Marikina and so far Bigaw’s is one of those which I am excited to share here at YedyLicious.
Bigaw’s is a family-owned restaurant so you can really feel the warmth and sincerity in every food that they serve. I am really rooting for this restaurant, to be very honest. And in the event that someone would ask me for a restaurant recommendation in Marikina City, Bigaw’s Brick Oven Pizza will definitely be on top of my list.
