I was at my nephew's school the other day to give a career talk to their upper class men. After my talk, I dropped by his classroom to say hi when I noticed that almost half of his classmates were absent. I was told that the kids were sick and that the weather must have taken its toll on their health. It was really concerning because it will be their exam week soon.
This reminds me that with the kind of weather we have now, we should exert an extra effort in taking care of our family especially the kids. My sister is a nurse, so, she's very particular in teaching my nephew the precautionary measures to avoid getting sick. I on the other hand, is the chef in our family, hence, I am assigned to look after the nutritional needs of our household.
If you have been reading my blog or have poked around it a bit, you would probably have an idea how much of a believer I am to the power of US Potato. Considered as "quality carbs" that help optimize mental and physical performance, US Potatoes are also naturally fat-, sodium-, and cholesterol-free.
In addition to that, US Potatoes are packed with vitamin C that boosts immunity, vitamin B6 that improves cognitive function, and potassium which is important for healthy growth and building muscles. Since it is packed with important vitamins and nutrients, it inspires me to create different dishes using US Potatoes which both my nephew and the adults in our house definitely love and can benefit from.
And yes my friends, to this day, I still rely to my ever trusted US Potato when it comes to providing delicious and nutritious meal for my family. This is all thanks to Potatoes USA, an organization that brought US frozen, US tablestock, and US dehydrate potatoes here in our country. I appreciate that this organization made it possible for us to have a lot of options for potato meals.
Recently, Potatoes USA visited the culinary club of The Raya School in Fairview, Quezon City to demonstrate the potato's versatility. During the fun-filled activity, the students learned the benefits of potatoes. Aside from that, the children were also given a chance to learn how to prepare and cook delicious potato dishes such as the Broccoli Cheddar Potato Puffs and the Chocolate Mashed Potato Truffles. After which, the children were then challenged to try their own potato dishes at home.
Imagine how fun the activity must be for the kids! I remember how my nephew would join me in the kitchen as I prepare a potato meal for him. Almost all of the time, he would end up making a potato dish of his own which he would proudly present to his parents and lolo and lola. Even if the mess that follows our kitchen adventure can be a bit tiring to deal with, the bonding moment over creating nutritious and delicious potato meal with my nephew is priceless.
I could not stress enough how easy it is to come up with different meals using potato. I have made quite a few potato meals and have written about it too here on the blog. You may check out my blog archive if you want to try some of my recipes or you may check out Potatoes USA's website for potato recipe inspirations. The recipes for Broccoli Cheddar Potato Puffs and the Chocolate Mashed Potato Truffles which the kids made at The Raya School are included in the website, so be sure to check that out.
