An evening of intense need to unwind led my friends and I to try out Hap Chan's All-You-Can-Eat Shabu-Shabu at Robinsons Galleria. It was a cold night that could have easily be tamed down with a bowl of ramen but we were a group with big appetite hence, unlimited grub is the way to go.
So that dinner, we stuffed ourselves silly while beaming with pride basking with the idea that we got our money's worth and then some. Because instead of spending almost 500 bucks for a bowl of hot ramen, we got pots after pots of delicious shabu-shabu made they way we wanted to.
It wasn't my first brush with Hap Chan Restaurant. I have blogged about one of their branches way back. But it was only recently that I got to try their Unlimited Shabu-shabu offering since not all branches offers it.
The goal of the night was to fill warm our tummy with something delicious and heart warming. So despite Hap Chan offering a package that includes a chance to feast on their buffet offerings, we chose to opt for the All-You-Can-Eat Shabu-Shabu. We also found their buffet spread somewhat limited, so we don't see the point.
Compared to other unlimited shabu-shabu I have tried in the past, Hap Chan's offerings are not as extensive. There were servings of sliced beef, pork, chicken, mussels, squid, shite fish, dimsum balls, veggies, noodles, and then some.
Mostly are just one variant especially for the meat, while the others carry not as much option as well. But given the price, I deem it's pretty reasonable.
But in fairness to the Hap Chan's staff, they were all quick to attend to the customers' needs and equally quick to refill the shabu-shabu ingredients that were running low.
There are suggestion cards sitting a top every table that shows a guide on what sauce combination that works well with shabu-shabu. Personally, I like the comination of peanut sauce, sate sauce, chili, ginger, onion, green onion, and sesame oil. Could be better if there's garlic but there's none during our visit.
First one my plate were black woodear mushroom, white woodear mushroom, corn, fried tofu, raw tofu, cremini mushroom, lobster balls, shrimp balls, cheese stuffed fish ball, and sliced beef.
I also went for glass noodles, carrots, cabbage, spinach, and lettuce. Then there's fish fillet, mussels, chicken, raw egg, chicken liver, squid, and pork slice.
I basically tried a little bit of everything. The best thing about shabu-shabu is that the flavor of the soup base differs as you go along cooking different ingredients and throwing in different sauces for a good measure.
All things considered, I could say that I enjoy the All-You-Can-Eat Shabu-Shabu at Hap Chan. For Php349 per head, we were able to feat on Shabu-Shabu that filled us to the brim. And with that price, dessert and drinks although with very limited choices, are all included on the rate.
So if you are craving for shabu-shabu and is okay to settle with basic choices, I must say that All-You-Can-Eat Shabu-Shabu at Hap Chan is a great option to check out. The choices are decent, the service is efficient, and the price is reasonable.
