Ever since my mother and my sister passed away, meal times during weekends are mostly spent outside whenever we can. Eating at home with just my father and my nephew can sometimes feel lonely. We miss my mother's cooking and my sister's company. To somehow lessen the sadness, we eat out.
I've written about Yellow Bird Cafe and Kitchen before. It's one of the homegrown cafes and restaurants in Antipolo City. But it is often overlooked because of the many commercial cafes and restaurants popping in the area fast.
One weekend, we decided to have breakfast at Yellow Bird. Very convenient because it is near home and it's just a stone's throw away from Transfiguration Chapel where we attend mass.
It's my nephew's first time at Yellow Bird Cafe so I'm excited for him. My father was with me and my sister when I blogged about it before. I regret that despite it's proximity to where we live, I wasn't able to bring my mother at Yellow Bird. Her favorite was Coffee Project, so that's where we often have our breakfast whenever she's not up for cooking and would rather eat out instead.

My nephew and my father |
One of the things I love about Yellow Bird Cafe is the fact that they serve good coffee. We had their Black Coffee Over Ice (Php150) and Plain Latte Over Ice (Php180). Both are espresso based which I prefer. We also tried their Hot Chocolate (Php140) which was nothing stellar but not disappointing either.
My nephew and father are both fan of simple meals because they do not want overwhelming choices when dining. They both opted for Yellow Bird's breakfast meals and asked me to decide on whatever else on the menu we could feast on.

My father with his Spam breakfast meal, and my nephew with his Bacon breakfast meal |
My father who rarely eat canned processed food, had Yellow Bird's Spam Breakfast Meal (Php225) for a change. It's basically a plate of garlic rice, two slices of ham, fried eggs cherry tomatoes, and few sheets of nori flakes. He said that it's something that he can whip up at home but it's filling enough he can't complain.
My nephew Jenus had the Bacon Breakfast Meal (Php240). It's a plate of garlic rice, fried egg, smoked bacon, cherry tomatoes, and baby potatoes. I haven't met a kid who doesn't love bacon so this meal, as expected was enjoyed by my nephew.
I can always ditch rice for a good serving of pasta anytime so, that morning, I had Yellow Bird's Truffle Cream Pasta with Chashu (Php370). Good thing I did because this pasta did not disappoint.
I am still at a phase where I love anything with truffle so, although there's only a hint of truffle in this pasta, I ended up liking it still. I love the combination of creamy sauce and the smoky flavor of chashu. Even the bread it comes with was so good. I just wish the serving's bigger.
We wanted to have the potato wedges but it wasn't available during our visit so we opted for the Classic Potato Salad (Php265) instead. It was just okay in terms of flavor. The serving size was a let down because it's too small for its price.
We all love a really good and hefty sandwich. Upon seeing Club House and Monte Cristo on their menu, we decided to go for it.
The Monte Cristo Sandwich (Php295) is not the usual Monte Cristo Sandwich I am used to. Yellow Bird's version is more like cut up little sandwiches that reminds me more of French toast, only it has ham filling. It comes with a side of nachos which I enjoyed more than the sandwich itself.
Then we also had the Yellow Bird's Clubhouse Sandwich (Php285) which was also a bit underwhelming. One would opt for a clubhouse sandwich if they want something hefty and layered with goodness anyone could hope for in a clubhouse sandwich. Yellow Bird's version is just so thin and too pedestrian to be called a clubhouse sandwich. Then again, all thanks to the nachos on the side which serve as its saving grace.
Part of the YB Classic list on their menu is the Pancit Canton (Php255) which came as highly recommended by a friend who visited Yellow Bird before. It did not disappoint. I love how generous the toppings were and the flavor was just on point.
The cakes during our visit were enticing yes, but with all the food we consumed, we just couldn't take a bite anymore. Which is fine because we can have something to look forward to on our next visit.
Their sandwiches style may not be my cup of tea. But I am satisfied with everything else we had during this visit. Add to that the fact that their food attendants were all very pleasant and accommodating. From the very first time I blogged about them way back 2016, up to now, I think, Yellow Bird is still one of the cafes in Antipolo well worth visiting.
Yellow Bird Cafe and Kitchen is located in Mission Hills at Havila, Antipolo, City. Near Transfiguration Chapel.
