Theo & Miguel Restaurant

My nephew is very fond of Filipino food. When dining out, he's the one to suggest to try Filipino restaurants we have not yet. This time, we tried Theo & Miguel Restaurant in Robinsons Place Antipolo. I have not heard of this restaurant before so, I have no idea what to expect.

The food options on their menu is very limited, which makes me a bit apprehensive. In my mind I'm already thinking of the next restaurant to hit once I didn't like whatever we're having at Theo & Miguel

My apprehension grew when I realized that there's not a lot of seafood and vegetable dishes at Theo & Miguel. My father who is a senior only enjoy vegetable and seafood, I myself is trying to dodge meat, but I can still enjoy a bite or two. My nephew is a meat eater but mostly it's jut steak that he enjoys. Still we decided to give this restaurant a try.

Good thing we did give this restaurant a try because not only they offer decent dishes, their serving portion is fit for the price of their food. Let's be honest, there are a lot of restaurants that are so expensive but their serving portion seems so unfair it makes us feel we're ripped off. Theo & Miguel is one of those which gives a bang for your buck.

My father and my nephew, amazed at how big the Fish & Chips serving was.
Yes, I have encountered restaurants that has serving portion fit for their price tags in my more than a decade of blogging, but on this side of the planet, rarely do I encounter it. Which makes Theo & Miguel a breath of fresh air.

First on the table was the Taco Platter (Php349) Not really my first choice for appetizers but since it's the only one on the list that promises fresh veggies, I decided to go for it. The fresh veggies were the ones that usually comes in a taco, shredded cabbage and tomatoes - very minimal. It comes with ground beef and soft pita bread then topped with white sauce and cheese. There's only 3 pieces in a platter.

Honestly I find it expensive considering it tasted a tad bland and just like something you can whip up at home for much lesser price. Not my favorite and will probably not order it again.

Our first order was a bit of a let down. But what comes next were thankfully good enough it made me realize it's a good thing that we tried Theo and Miguel.

Next on the table was their Fish & Chips (Php649) It is a combination of lightly breaded fish and homemade potato chips. Aside from its remarkable serving portion, I love the herby taste of this dish. I just wish they could add more lemon wedges a thin slice wouldn't just do it. I really love the homemade potato chips that comes with it. Next time, I am coming for their Loaded Potato Chips.

Then, we also had their Baby Back Ribs Adobo (Php549) which is basically slabs of baby back ribs served with Angus rice and 2 eggs. This dish could be perfect if the meat is fork tender, but it wasn't. Nonetheless the flavor was good - kinda reminds me of how my late mother would cook her adobo. My nephew loves this but also commented that the tenderness could be better. I will definitely order this again on our next visit.

It came a bit late because we were already halfway through our lunch, but still, Theo & Miguel's Pinakbet Bagnet (Php699) ended up as my favorite for this particular visit. Pork lovers would definitely love the slices of bagnet sitting atop the pinakbet. What I love about this dish was the perfect flavor of vegetables and the delicious bagoong they used. I was really impressed by this dish and I would always order this everytime I visit.

I wasn't able to capture it on my camera but we did order for their Java Rice Platter (Php189) which my father really liked. The Angus rice that comes with the Baby Back Ribs Adobo was good also good which made my nephew finish it all by himself.

All in all, it was a great experience we had at Theo & Miguel. The service was also impressive so that's another reason why I would love to revisit again. And for sure, I'll bring the rest of our family next time because they will surely love it.
