Brek O' Day at The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf

One thing I love about Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf aside from serving my favorite Iced Chai Tea Latte and African Sunrise Tea Latte, is their breakfast set available all day. For someone like me who is not a morning person, it comes pretty handy, especially if it is quite impossible for you to stretch your time just to prepare breakfast. You can just head to the nearest CBTL and grab some breakfast set, then you’re good to go.
During my recent visit there, I had their Brek O' Day Breakfast set. A complete meal consisting of panini bread or bagel, your choice of Chicken sausage or Turkey ham, scrambled eggs, butter, jam, and sweetened fruits. Oh, that sweetened fruits; it’s a mini cup of heaven.

I cannot count the number of times that CBTL’s breakfast set saved me from the possibility of dying of starvation before heading to some client meetings I had in the past months. Sometimes, even if it is weekends and there are still loads of deadlines to meet, I could just spend an entire day at CBTL and have my breakfast and coffee all day while typing my wits out to finish whatever writing assignment is due.

It may not be that generous in servings but it is a good meal. If you have a big appetite there is a possibility that you might not be satisfied proportion-wise, but the quality of food is really good. Not as heavy as what we normally have at home or some other place, but it is also a good alternative for some. It is very convenient and delicious too, a great way to start and even end your day.

Little Asia, Symphony of Flavors

Way before I started blogging I have always been an adventurous foodie. I am not the type who needs to check on reviews first before dining in to restaurants. When it comes to trying out restos, I always take chances, and that is how I found some of the best restaurants I never thought would give me satisfaction. But of all the restos I have been to and will be going to, I am certain that Little Asia will always hold a special place in my heart.

I have lived in San Juan City for quite a while now and you could probably imagine how frequent I’ve been to Greenhills area. I have tried several restos there, some of which I have visited quite a number of times. Ironically, although Little Asia is always on top of my list, I only visit the resto during special occasions not because they are pricey, theirs are reasonable in fact, but because most of the memorable dining experiences with some of the special people I hold dear in my life was spent there.

It was in Little Asia that I have dined with my very first colleagues the first time I started working after graduation. It was there that my best girls celebrated our mini reunion after being away from each other for a long time. It was there that my bestfriend Pauly and I spent our last dinner together with some of our College Friends before he left the country. Those special moments in my life were witnessed by some of the staff at Little Asia in Greenhills, and they were always kind enough to celebrate with our joys by giving kind gestures and little surprises to our group.

This multi-awarded restaurant rocks when it comes to customer service and when it comes to food, they are one of the gods. Most of the dish on their menu is truly excellent, but these are the ones I truly enjoy.

Cantonese Prawn

Sautéed prawns in cream and cheese sauce. If there is one dish I could eat for the rest of my life, this would be it. This dish is a total knock out in my opinion. The prawn meat is so tender it can easily be separated from the skin. Although soaked in the creamy goodness of the sauce, the prawns are still juicy therefore it isn’t over powered by the taste of the cheese. They obviously use fresh prawns because of its sweet taste.

Little Asia Crispy Fried Chicken

Your crispy delicious classic Fried Chicken made better with Little Asia’s own concoction of seasoning. The skin is so crispy and savory and the meat is equally tasty and juicy.

Chicken Wrapped In Bacon

Chicken and pork combined with honey sauce. This savory dish blew me off. The chicken is soft while the bacon is juicy and when their flavors collide inside your mouth, it’s pure bliss.

Salt and Pepper Fried Squid

Now this one I like specifically because the squid is not rubbery compare to other restos which offers the same dish. The batter is so tasty and crispy but the meat is still juicy.

Japanese Mixed Fried Rice

This is your usual Yang Chow Fried Rice with a twist. You can have it even without a viand.

These are just some of the dish I always order whenever I am at Little Asia but there are more. With customer service as good as theirs and a place so relaxing, one couldn’t help but try out every wonderful dish on their menu. Of course, it is always best shared with people important to you.

I know that this restaurant deserve one hardcore post wherein I could rave about how good the food are and how cozy the place is, with some kicking photos but I couldn’t help myself to post a teaser because another memorable event is on its way. Surely when the plane landed, this is the first restaurant I will be dragging my bestfriend Pauly to, so that we can make another beautiful memory of shared good food and fascinating stories.

Mushroom Bruschetta at Bar Dolci

When you are about to attend a dinner event where you are expected to consume unlimited amount of the crispiest and the tastiest chicken in the country, would you pass up a chance to have an appetizer from a sweet spot in Manila's Fort Bonifacio Global City before heading to the actual event? No, right? I know. Because I didn't.

My friend Glenn and I were strolling along Burgos Circle with our writing paraphernalia at one hand and a Venti Coffee on the other when we chanced upon Bar Dolci. We were an hour early for the event so we decided to find a place where we can stay while waiting for dinner time. We strolled past Bar Dolci but the store illuminates with an inviting aura so we decided to go back and check on their menu.

Upon entering the store, we were greeted with a pleasing view of different colors of gelatos and macaroons. We know that we are headed to road of temptation.

Since I have a strong desire to be at par with Glenn’s appetite in consuming as much chicken as possible, while Glenn, on the other hand, was dead set on beating his previous record, with a heavy heart we know we need to pass up on ordering sweets so as not to ruin our appetite. So, we ordered for their Mushroom Bruschetta instead, as an appetizer, and promised each other that we will go back to try the macaroons and gelatos next time.

All the while, I thought it would just be those two delightfully colored treats that would torment me until such time that I would get to visit the store again, but when I tasted their Mushroom Bruschetta, I could not take it out of my mind. It was love at first bite.

Bar Colci’s Mushroom Bruschetta looks like a pizza but the distinct taste of a bruschetta is definitely there. Generous amount of mushroom nestled on top of cunchy-soft bread with melted cheese, crushed garlic, and shredded parsley. It was so meaty you wouldn’t even notice that it’s just a mushroom all the way.

It is definitely one of the reasons why I would be coming back to Bar Dolci aside from their gelatos and macaroons I have yet to try.

Crispy Danggit and Garlic Rice on a Sunday Morning

For me, one of the best things during weekend is Sunday breakfast. That resolved was further steeled when I am already passed the phase in my life where every Saturday nights were spent on parade of booze and Sundays does not exist in my calendar because well, I was asleep the whole day trying to nurse a hangover. These days, Sunday breakfast is the time when I get a chance to spend time with my parents and sisters while feasting on scrumptious meal that we all prepared.

Although I am a hardcore carnivore and my utmost love for bacon commensurate to my love for some of my most prized possessions, one breakfast meal that can really rock my world is Piniritong Danggit (Fried Rabbitfish/Spinefoot) with my father’s Sinangag na Kanin (Garlic Fried Rice). Add some fresh tomatoes, some salted egg, and spicy vinegar with a dash of salt and crushed garlic to that, then I’m on a roll.

Although it is Cebu that is best known for its delicious Danggit, my parents recently discovered a place in Binangonan Rizal called Pipindan which also sells the best tasting Danggit I ever had. I was told that it was priced at 140php per kilo, way too affordable compare to its market price. The difference is that the Danggit from Binangonan Rizal is a little less salty in taste as compared to the one manufactured in Cebu. Nevertheless, they both can satiate ones palate.

I always believed that it is best eaten with bare hands. You grab some salted egg and tomatoes, mashed it with the fried rice, then pick a piece of that sinfully crunchy Danggit, dip it in the spicy vinegar, pop it into your mouth then follow it with the rice mixture. Have some slice or two of fresh fruits to ensure ultimate breakfast experience. It is pure bliss.

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday foodies! Bon Appetit!
